New project started

torsdag 9. april 2020
af Fanny Rey

Today Bjørn and Esben opened the nets at 06:00, then Simon and I went to join them for the first round which was very quiet with only one Dunnock (Jernspurv} that Bjørn get to ring for the first time!  We also put up a new net who made now 16 nets on the site. In total today we had 12 birds ringed at Kabeltromlen. Michael was also ringing at Jennes sø. Today we receive the answer from the ringing center about the Read banding (Rørspurv) ring in Spain, it was ringed near Barcelona in November 2019, it made around 1800 km to come all the way to Danemark !

Joakin and Frederik were not far they were at verdens ende 2 doing migration counting, the highlight of the day were Iceland Gull (Hvidvinget Måge) and Glaucous Gull (Gråmåge), the sea migration was quite good today but quiet in land.

During the afternoon, Joakim amd I kept going with the sound recording analysis of night migration. During this time Bjørn did a close observation of a Golden eagle (Kongeørn) passing close to the lighthouse.

Katerine and Charli arrived today to work on a project on Robin (Rødhals), they have started to prepare all the equipment to set up an antenna tomorrow. They will be at Skagen for couple of days to prepare the project. The project is to put tags (little telemetry transmitter) on Robin that will give us the possibility to locate them and know when they have migrated. The goal of the project is to find out how the weather and the fat score on the bird can affect the departure of migration.

KATERNE AND CHARLIE

During the late afternoon we help Katerine bringing the antenna to the tdc mast. After that we went on a walk around and had a very nice time observation two Firecrest (Rødtoppet Fuglekonge) flying around the pine tree.
