Brambling in the air
Today Simon, Esben and I had the second morning ringing at Kabeltromlen, it was a cold but also sunny morning.
During the first round we get two birds and then after mostly nothing in the nets, in total we caught four birds today. To compensate this quiet ringing morning, we had a very good passage of finches with many Brambling (Kvækerfinke) around 14700 birds! We also had some passage Buzzard (Musvåge) not passing far from the spot that I get to take on picture.
During the afternoon we did some cleaning on the apartment and at the lab, then we had some time to read some books and do some compute work back at the lighthouse. On the late afternoon we welcomed the new volunteer Bjørn from Danemark.
To finish the day we had a great Chiffchaff (Gransanger) session made by Simon where we get to know better the moult strategies of the bird and where we should look in the plumage of the bird during the ringing session. It’s not an easy bird to age because he is doing two different moult during the years, one during summer and one during winter so that’s make it harder to age them! But thanks you Simon, thanks to you now we should be able to age the bird!
