Ringing days
Today began at 4 am for me, Hebe, Simon and Joakim. We headed to the Grenen ringing site to see which species were out and about. We had a beautiful sunny morning, ringing chiffchaffs (gransanger), coal tits (sortmejse), goldcrests (fuglekonge), including a beautiful male, a blackbird (solsort), and a couple of great tits (musvit). We caught a glimpse of bearded tits (skægmejse) in the reeds, and a few ring ouzel (ringdrossel) flying overhead.
Interestingly, we caught one chiffchaff (gransanger) who was ringed here last autumn!
Dante headed out to North Strand for daily observations, seeing an abundance of raptors, such as ospreys (fiskeørn) soaring over the strand.
After lunch, Hebe and Simon focused on inputting ringing data, Dante inputted data into DOF, and Joakim spent the rest of the day with his family who have come to visit. Hebe then carried out a 3 hour, and much needed, clean of the lab. I went for a cycle in the beautiful evening, while Dante strolled out to the tip to watch the last of the days raptors.
