Birds and beers

fredag 3. juni 2022
af Alice Scalzo

This morning Hanelie and Manuel, joined by Bjorn, braved the strong winds to do morning observations in world's end 1. They got very few birds but the sun was up to warm them while they observed. Bent our guest also joined them. They saw a few Fulmars (Mallemuk) and a Great Skua (Storkjove). After the counting hours had passed Hanelie went on a walk along the beach to try to find Common ringed plovers (Stor Præstekrave) chicks, and she actually found one ! Running alongside with its parents. We decided we would try to catch it in the afternoon, so she came back to the station. Leona checked the entered ringing data with Bjorn after he had had the pleasure to get a little guided tour through the lighthouse. It was his last day with us, we said goodbye to him in the beginning of the afternoon, pleased that he enjoyed his week here with us. Then Lisa arrived at the station and with her Leona, Hanelie and I, we went to the beach to find the chick. We found it rather quickly, and could ring it under the supervision of it's parents that stayed very close to us. It was then reunited with its parents.

WhatsApp_Image_2022-06-03_at_14.37.26.jpegWe continued our search but couldn't find more, and we had to go back to the station as we had plans for the afternoon. Beer house it was ! All of us, accompanied by our guests, and Lisa and Simon, took the car to get there. We enjoyed good drinks and fine company!
Simon met the Swedish bat experts, they collected the recorder. They are planning to install more recorders for this autumn and compare results. He also worked on the year report . Bent our guest joined morning observations and then went to Skagen. Lisbet enjoyed going to a second hand shop in town. We had to say good bye to them tonight because they are leaving tomorrow, and we probably won't have time to see them. It was nice having them here this week, and we wish them a nice trip back home.
Have a good evening,
Alice.
