A new species for our volunteers!
mandag 18. april 2022
This morning was filled with many birds in the nets. And not only robins (Rødhals) and wrens (Gærdesmutte), but we also got two new species ! So me and Hanelie were very happy to see our first Common Redstarts (Rødstjert) and Willow Warblers (Løvsanger) of Skagen ! We also caught a Yellowhammer (Gulspurv), and a record of robins for the season, 59 robins just this morning !
The first rounds were quite busy with the number of birds, but fortunately we were enough people this morning as Simon, Lisa and Esben were with us. Then Simon and Esben had to leave, they went to work on the raptor project once again. So we continued ringing without them and had a great time. Meanwhile Manuel and Robbe went to Nordstrand for migration count. They got few birds, migration is a bit slow these days, let's hope we get more soon ! But they still enjoyed a black kite (Sort Glente) and an osprey (Fiskeørn) that flew very close to them.
In the afternoon we were all working on the computer. Hanelie and I entering the ringing data, and Robbe working for university. When suddenly... The black shouldered kite (Blå Glente) was announced on zello ! We all jumped on our bikes, well actually Hanelie sat on Robbe's bike, and cycled as fast as we could to Kabeltrommelbakken.
And there it was, sitting on a pole. It was the first time for both Hanelie and Robbe to see this bird, and it was a nice observation too. We enjoyed the bird's company for more than an hour while slowly more and more people came to see it. At the end we were maybe thirty birdwatchers here, with binoculars, scopes and cameras. We Also saw it flying a bit, so we could all enjoy the bird.

After some time we came back to the station and finished our computer work. We had to go groceries afterwards while Manuel started cooking a nice meal for us.
Esben left for the train station in the afternoon, but he, Simon and Lisa had a quick stop to see the black shouldered kite with us.
Simon and Esben also saw a Serin (Gulirisk), a Golden eagle (Kongeørn), and a Black kite in Hulsig.
Have a good evening,
Alice.
