European Birdwatching Day and Rescued Guillemot
Today we ringed in the morning an hour later than usual due to the bad weather. Augustin, Angela and Justine opened the nets this morning. Angela and Justine talked to Cafe Blink about a deal where the station might be able to get some of the nice leftovers they have a couple times a week. We look forward to that.
Robbie and Charlotte went observing this morning and found a guillemot (lomvie) on the beach. It was very weak, and Charlotte carried it to the lab where we let it rest for a couple of hours. Luckily it wasnt injured or anything when they found it, just starving. A couple hours later, Lisa came with some fish for it and she and Augustine fed it. We let it rest and this afternoon it was very happy and healthy, it ate and bit our fingers which is a good sign. Unfortunately we can’t ring it because we don’t have the correct ring for it. We let it go on the beach behind the lighthouse before sunset, and the guillemot, which we named Guillermo, and it swam away with a belly full of handfed fish :)
We hope it will continue to be healthy and happy.
