Vandriskse and resting before a long night

onsdag 1. september 2021
af Augustin Sticksel

We went ringing today and it turned out to be a successful day at Kabeltromlen. We caught 54 birds in total, a juvenile Water Rail (Vandrikse) in the last round wich was a nice surprise when we were closing the nets and 15 Redstarts (Rødstjert), this is a short period where these beautiful Passerines are the dominant species at the ringing. Rosalina practiced her extracting and ringing skills and mastered the Steel ring closing on the Water Rail on her first try! Simon found  beautiful Camberwell Beauty (Sørgekåbe) butterfly. Our guest Ellin also joined the ringing and was very interested in our work, in the afternoon she went to a local history museum in Skagen.

In the afternoon me and Simon helped the bike mechanic to get all our broken bikes to fix them. Simon visited Jorgen Kabel, he has a butterfly feeder in his garden to watch them while they are feeding. We all got a bit of rest so we are fit for another night of trying to catch Storm Petrels on the beach.
