You know the saying "Slow day? Slow Worm!" No...?
Hi folks!
I hope your week is going very well. :)
The past few days have been a bit slow for the ringing team, but Jonas has been going observing as usual and has had to wear his snowsuit again. Just when we thought those days were over... :P
Waking up at 4 am this morning, Jonas went observing at Verdens Ende 1 with his father, Kurt Willumsen, and Alex Sand Frich. Quite a slow morning but saved by 3 Black-throated Divers (Sortstrubet Lom), one Great Northern Diver (Islom), and a very far out Montagu's Harrier (Hedehøg).
I woke up at 6 am and went for a walk, took some pictures of House Martins (Bysvale) probably trying to nest under the roof of the lab building, a female Goldeneye (Hvinand, hun) and a female Wheatear (Stenpikkere, hun), and met with Jonas at the end of the observation morning.
Rasmus worked on the second part of the raptor session this morning: ageing and sexing falcons, accipiters, and harriers. Laima sorted the picture archive out, and Mikkel worked on his master's project and made some real progress and finally getting somewhere with RStudio.
After coming back home, Jonas finished his part of the raptor session, while I checked on three skulls that we have been trying to clean up yesterday night with Laima: she worked on a Redwing (Vindrossel) while I worked on a young Guillemot (Alk) and a Fulmar (Mallemuk) found mostly eaten on Nordstrand a while back.
After having lunch, Jonas went for a walk with his mom, Lone Pedersen, at Gyvelstien, and added some finishing touches to his raptor session, while Laima, Rasmus, and I went to Jennes Sø to put some nets up. On the way there, we came across a Slow Worm (Stålorm). I had never seen one, it was so exciting!

At 4 pm, Jonas gave us his presentation on ageing and sexing of Ospreys (Fiskeørn), eagles, buzzards, and kites. It was a tad complicated but very interesting! The video will be uploaded to our Youtube channel before the end of the season.

Laima and I had a lovely video call with the one and only El Daniol which was very nice. Kirsten is now cooking, and we will probably go to bed pretty soon after, as ringing is back on tomorrow and it means waking up at 2:50 am... :D
Yes, Laima and I were in the same building but for the sake of the screenshot, we just went on separate phones.
Wishing you a very good day tomorrow, and talk to you soon!
