The last slow day??
Hey everybody!
We had another rainy and slow day… The guys - Jonas, Mikkel and Rasmus went out observing at Nordstrand this morning where they stayed for almost three hours and came back to the observatory completely frozen. They did have a close observation of an Osprey (Fiskeørn), some arctic skuas (Almindelig kjove) and long-tailed ducks (Havlit). Meanwhile, Michaela and I got to sleep in a little, and went out to Ellekrattet before 6 o’clock to do the point count. When we came back, we had breakfast and then went for a nap. The guys returned quite soon after and everyone was just resting until noon. Then we went to do the second point count from Sardinkrattet, and after that biked to Batteriskoven for a short walk along the ditch where a lot of Willow warblers (Løvsanger), Chiffchaffs (Gransanger) and Lesser whitethroats (Gærdesanger) were foraging. We came back a bit tired to the obs, so treated ourselves for some coffee and vegan ice-cream with oreos :D
Jonas and Rasmus also spent the afternoon birding outside, first at the old observatory garden and batteriskoven where they saw two pied flycatchers (Broget fluesnapper), a stonechat (Sortstrubet bynkefugl) in addition to all the phylloscopus warblers that we saw. Mikkel stayed in and worked on his project, and later cooked a lovely Indian dish for dinner!
Just before dinner I went for a run and was glad the rain has finally stopped. It seems like tomorrow will be suitable weather for opening the nets, so we will be back at Kabeltromlen!
