Big ringing day and Hoopoe!

Hey folks :)

I hope your week has started well!
This will be a shorter post as we all had a long day and we still need to do a lot of data entry.

Today was a very special day as we, volunteers, all went ringing together! Definitely a team-building experience. Laima, Mikkel, and Rasmus opened the nets, and Jonas, Sander, and I joined them for the first round along with Lisa and Hans.
It was definitely the biggest day so far, and highlights were the first Redstart of the season, a control Blue Tit (Blåmejse) from Germany, and obviously a visit from Jørgen and Igor.

Very busy first rounds and everyone got to improve their skills: Mikkel ringed his first bird which was a Robin (Rødhals), a Chiffchaff (Gransanger), and a Reed Bunting (Rørspurv); Jonas practiced his ringing, extracting, and got reacquainted with Wrens (Gaerdesmutte); Rasmus held his first tit and made some funny faces.

We opened the nets at 5 am and closed them at 2:20 pm. That's about 10 hours of ringing. :o No need to tell you that we are all pretty exhausted and all had a nap except for Mikkel who went for a bike ride to be exhausted tonight and hopefully have a wonderful's night sleep. :)

On the observation side, Simon went out to Nordstrand with Knud and called a Hoopoe (Haerfugl) out, which most of us at Kabeltromlen also got to see. A first for Sander and Rasmus!!
It has also been a good day for Barn Swallows (Landsvale), Sand Martins (Digesvale), and House Martins (Bysvale). :)
